Without denying the genetic heritage and self inner experiences of one, Social behaviorism, based on George Herbert Mead’s theories -the American sociologist and pragmatism theorist – is dependent on social actions and reactions that are provoked in an individual. Until presentation of Mead’s Social Self theory, psychologist and sociologists believed that “Self” is only influenced by biological factors and hereditary features. Mead believes that development and forming of “self” does not begins with birth, and is initiated after experiencing social activities and experiments. According to this theory, developing “self” is caused by three actions:

  • Language: Speaking, Symbols, Body language, Words and Sounds
  • Role: expressing status and roles which are played in different social conditions
  • Game: Comparison and accepting regulations and rules of game as reasons of defeat or victory

According to this theory “self” is made of subjective self and objective self. Objective self reflects social expectations and doctrines. This part of self, not only represents conservative forces and social supervision, but also prevents the violation of regulations, rules and norms. Subjective self is the understanding of one from itself in each and every moment of time. This part of self, allows the person to keep its individuality and creativity, despite the limitations. Subjective self, is subjective and is aware that which part of itself is under impression of society, and which part is under influence of sentiments and personal beliefs.

An optical illusion is characterized by visually perceived images that differ from objective reality. The information gathered by the eye is processed in the brain to give a perception that does not tally with a physical measurement of the stimulus source. There are three main types: literal optical illusions that create images that are different from the objects that make them, physiological illusions that are the effects of excessive stimulation of a specific type (brightness, color, size, position, tilt, movement), and cognitive illusions, the result of unconscious inferences.
